2014 New Year, New Whole30 – Day 3

Whole30 2014For the next 30+ days, I will be eating meat, vegetables, healthy fats, fruits and nuts. I will not be eating processed food, sugar, dairy, grains or legumes, and I won’t be consuming any alcohol.

This is not my first Whole30, but this time I want to focus on a couple of specific elements: 1) fewer nuts as snacks and 2) fewer snacks in general. I would like to find the right mix of meals and pre-/post-workout fuel to keep me steady throughout the day.

This week’s focus: Drink lots of water or tea.

5:00 Black coffee

7:00 Collard greens, 2 eggs, 1 oz. chicken and gravy, 1/4 avocado

11:00 Pre-workout 3 meatballs in lettuce leaves

2:30 Post-workout/lunch West Lake soup, 2 chicken handrolls with veggies

7:00 Fajita salad

8:30 A few bites of slow cooker pork

Food New Year’s Eve! This is normally a night of total over-indulgence. Since I started my Whole30 on Sunday, that wasn’t the plan for tonight. I had a few urges to do something different, but mostly just wistfully remembering fun times in the past. I feel really good about my choices tonight and that’s totally worth it! We had a last minute get-together with friends at a Mexican restaurant. This could have ended badly because dining out can be difficult when you’re Paleo, and particularly Whole30 dining, but I chose a fajita salad and removed the cheese, sour cream, beans, and taco shell. The whole thing turned out great!

Mood I’m tired, which is not helpful for my mood. I’m also on Day 3, which can be challenging. It’s also New Year’s Eve, which has a lot of long-time traditions for me, including food and champagne. AND it’s a busy day that isn’t all relaxing with some emotional stuff on top.

Sleep 7 hours. I really need more sleep. I can tell.

Activity Lifted some weights today, not a major workout but at least I got to the gym.

Focus Lots of water – all good.
