Whole30 – 2016TD4

Whole30 2014For the next 30+ days, I will be eating meat, vegetables, healthy fats, fruits and nuts. I will not be eating processed food, sugar, dairy, grains or legumes, and I won’t be consuming any alcohol.

I’ve done a few Whole30 challenges before, but this time I’m looking for something a little different. I lost touch with my Paleo choices last year and I would like to reconnect with what it means to feel healthy, vibrant, and in tune with my whole self.

Day 4 is done!

Quote: You are capable of amazing things.

Such a true statement. Sometimes I forget that amazing things can be small, teeny-tiny little things that make another person smile. Amazing doesn’t have to be grandiose. Amazing can be choosing to eat an apple when you’re staring at a cupcake. Amazing can be figuring out how to get more hours of sleep. Amazing can be looking someone in the eye and letting them know that they are important.

Part of why I was so busy today was because I have started participating in a mentor program. I meet weekly with an 11-year old girl who could use someone to listen to her and support her and perhaps help her find her way if she needs it. We had our first meeting today and it was a joy to spend time with her. A few things she said made my heart ache – she doesn’t have an easy life – and then she said, “I wish you came more days than just Tuesday.”

Day 4 – The Details

4:30am – Black coffee

6:15am – 2 eggs, 1/2 tsp. coconut oil, zucchini, sauerkraut, 1/2 cucumber, 1/4 avocado, drizzle of evoo

11:00am – 1 chicken thigh

1:30pm – Buffalo chicken spaghetti squash casserole

5:15pm – 3ish oz. pork chop, Curry spiced broccoli, mini-smoothie

Food: I feel good about today, even though the circumstances weren’t ideal. Just too much going on so I had to grab some chicken before running out the door again and then I was hungry in the afternoon, but learned something there. I thought I needed to eat, but what I really wanted was to try our new blender…and procrastinate because of all the things on my to-do list. I felt hunger, but I’m pretty sure it was mental. So instead of making the smoothie, I pushed through and had the smoothie as part of my dinner. It worked out great. I know that sometimes I use food/hunger to avoid doing what I need to do. But not today! However, in the last hour before bed, I felt really hungry. I’m pretty sure I didn’t eat enough at dinner. I’ll need to pay attention tomorrow.

Mood: So busy today! I’m not even sure if I had a mood. My day was all about going from one thing to the next, nothing related to each other so it was a series of transitions. I felt happy, just a little frazzled.

Sleep: 6ish hours. Yesterday was busy and my energy was pretty high from work so I had a little trouble falling asleep. And then I woke up with a headache, which is really strange for me. Probably just from the food changes but I’ll post if it reoccurs.

Activity: Rest day.

Focus – Drink tea or water: Totally fine. I always have water on hand and I am back to having tea in the evening, which I love, especially since winter is here. I’m ready for a new focus because this one is dialed in.

  1. I am just back from a new year trip, decided that I was going paleo. Getting organised today and starting my new lifestyle tomorrow. Can’t wait to get rid of this inflammation etc and feel good. X
