About Me

I am one lucky lady living in Colorado with my funny Englishman and fantastic son, a personal trainer and fitness lover, and a passionate foodie who believes a paleo eating style and active life can help us become our healthiest selves. I’ve learned over time that it’s less about being perfect and more about finding the perfect balance. Within this blog, I hope you find a recipe, an idea, or just a bit of inspiration that helps you attain your own perfect balance.

Over the years, I have tried different diets and diet foods, structured eating plans, clean eating, and vegetarianism. During that time, I discovered that my body and my mind function best when eating real food based on the paleo philosophy: Meat, Vegetables, Fats, Fruit, Nuts, and Seeds. While I love the other real foods (ie. grains, legumes, dairy – oh! and alcohol), they do not always love me. So I strive to eat from those basic foods available to man during the paleolithic era and, truthfully, that is when I am at my best.

I am not a doctor or a nutritionist, so when I talk about what works, I am speaking from personal, practical knowledge and am in no way trying to provide medical advice or information. If you have specific issues, please take those up with a medical professional or certified nutritionist. I am fascinated by the subject of food in all its delicious capacities and I hope to share some of that with you.

My Food Philosophy

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”

I love trying new recipes and, whenever possible, sharing those culinary adventures with my friends around the table. For me, focusing on meat, veggies, fat, fruits, nuts and seeds yields the best results for my health. If you are already paleo, or are interested in giving it a try, then you’ll find lots of tips and recipes to help you along. It’s the way I love to eat, but sometimes things get a little crazy.

My Fitness Philosophy

I believe we each need to find whatever fitness avenue speaks to us and it may not always be the same thing all the time. Variety is great! I love to lift heavy weights and get strong, and I’ll probably talk about that throughout my blog, and I admit to loving a good CrossFit workout too. We are built to move and lift and be active, and I always feel better when I workout.

I love to balance all that intensity with my yoga practice and it holds a very special place in my life. Yoga gives more to me every day and I hope to share throughout these pages some of the wisdom that I have gained.

Vrksasana – Tree Pose

Tree pose requires balance and strength. While pushing down into the ground on one foot to hold you strongly like the roots of a tree, you are simultaneously reaching up as if your arms were branches seeking sunlight, health, growth. I love this pose because it always feels as if I am continuing my search for balance, feeling strong and centered with my trunk, but ever swaying and coming in and out of balance, much like we do in life. This blog is dedicated to that ongoing search and swaying – the journey towards balance.
